In January of this year I was named one of the 2017's most exciting new authors. I was interviewed by their magazine editor, some of those comments are contained below.
Vietnam is a central issue in my stories, but only to a point. Those who returned from that conflict were not welcomed home, there was no glory, no fanfare. People wanted to forget and the men and women who fought were forgotten. I remember mostly my anger that no one cared. It was much later that I recognized the enormous amount of survivor’s guilt that fueled my anger. Midway into writing about these things, I began to see my father through a different lens. I recognized the damage and guilt he carried as a survivor of another, greater war. It made me understand his distance and inability to speak of it."
